I wrote this web page for the internal Career & Development site at Wells Fargo.
My team overhauled the content strategy and content of the site in 2014. I was the lead editor for the project and also wrote half of the content.
This site is a primary hub on Wells Fargo’s intranet — all 272,000 team members use the site to find resources and information for their career and development, including goal setting, courses and programs, networking, performance reviews, and job searching.

Networking is an important activity for every professional — these relationships will likely be crucial to your career success. An active network can connect you to timely career and education opportunities, introduce you to influential leaders, and offer proven advice on how to succeed in your career.
How to build a network
Anyone can be a successful networker — it just takes some planning, practice, and effort. Follow these steps to develop your existing network or build a new one.
Identify the people you know
Even if your network seems small, you likely know more people than you realize. Use the Networking Worksheet (DOC) [link] to begin listing your personal and professional contacts and get a sense of the boundaries of your network.
Define your networking goals
Networking goals can help you step outside your comfort zone and determine whom to connect with next. Goals could range from short-term activities, such as meeting a certain number of new people each month, to long-term ones, such as making connections across the company or pursuing a new job.
Seek diverse relationships
Consider expanding your network beyond people who are similar to yourself. A network full of diverse individuals — with different backgrounds, careers, and experience levels — can provide unique insights into your industry, career, and self-development.
The people you meet will likely play different roles in your life. Some people will be valuable resources for industry news and trends. Others will be well connected and can help you expand your network further. And still others will have a similar background or career experience to yours and can offer empathy and support.
